This is one of the most important feature stories I have had the privilege to design. The Tulsa Massacre was an event that many have been unaware of for decades. Myself included, until recent years. It was very important that I dig very deep into historical imagery for this story that told of the lawyer who has dedicated his career to represent the survivors of this tragic event in history. My personal goal for this story was to show the prosperity that once existed on Black Wall St., those who participated in this event, and the aftermath of the event. This was no small feat, as finding print-quality historical images that I can reprint with permission is a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. As I dug for images, I found people that were happy to help in this mission, and was able to put together a piece that helps to tell a story that has been conveniently hidden from history.
